From Weighted to Unweighted Model Counting

چکیده
The recent surge of interest in reasoning about probabilistic graphical models has led to the development of various techniques for probabilistic reasoning. Of these, techniques based on weighted model counting are particularly interesting since they can potentially leverage recent advances in unweighted model counting and in propositional satisfiability solving. In this paper, we present a new approach to weighted model counting via reduction to unweighted model counting. Our reduction, which is polynomial-time and preserves the normal form (CNF/DNF) of the input formula, allows us to exploit advances in unweighted model counting to solve weighted model counting instances. Experiments with weighted model counters built using our reduction indicate that these counters performs much better than a state-of-the-art weighted model counter.

Parity Separation: A Scientifically Proven Method for Permanent Weight Loss
Given an edge-weighted graph G, let PerfMatch(G) denote the weighted sum over all perfect matchings M in G, weighting each matching M by the product of weights of edges in M. If G is unweighted, this plainly counts the perfect matchings of G. In this paper, we introduce parity separation, a new method for reducing PerfMatch to unweighted instances: For graphs G with edge-weights 1 and −1, we co...
متن کاملNon-negative Weighted #CSPs: An Effective Complexity Dichotomy
We prove a complexity dichotomy theorem for all non-negative weighted counting Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSP). This caps a long series of important results on counting problems including unweighted and weighted graph homomorphisms [19, 8, 18, 12] and the celebrated dichotomy theorem for unweighted #CSP [6, 4, 21, 22]. Our dichotomy theorem gives a succinct criterion for tractability. If...
متن کاملThe complexity of weighted counting for acyclic conjunctive queries
This paper is a study of weighted counting of the solutions of acyclic conjunctive queries (ACQ). The unweighted quantifier free version of this problem is known to be tractable (for combined complexity), but it is also known that introducing even a single quantified variable makes it #P-hard. We first show that weighted counting for quantifier-free ACQ is still tractable and that even minimali...
متن کاملA Trichotomy Theorem for the Approximate Counting of Complex-Weighted Bounded-Degree Boolean CSPs
We determine the computational complexity of approximately counting the total weight of variable assignments for every complex-weighted Boolean constraint satisfaction problem (or CSP) with any number of additional unary (i.e., arity 1) constraints, particularly, when degrees of input instances are bounded from above by a fixed constant. All degree-1 counting CSPs are obviously solvable in poly...
متن کاملUnweighted p-center problem on extended stars
An extended star is a tree which has only one vertex with degree larger than two. The -center problem in a graph asks to find a subset of the vertices of of cardinality such that the maximum weighted distances from to all vertices is minimized. In this paper we consider the -center problem on the unweighted extended stars, and present some properties to find solution.
